HOW TO LEGALLY DISGUISE SPONSORED CONTENT | THE SECRET WORLD OF INFLUENCERS PART 3

EXPOSING NEGATIVE REVIEWS / HOW TO MAKE MONEY ONLINE / HOW SPONSORED POSTS WORK / EXPOSING THE BEAUTY COMMUNITY / ONLINE FRAUD / MY TRUTH
Jaclyn Hill…. Let’s talk. If you think you can sit there and preach to your 5.4 million subscribers that negative reviews “are not a thing”, you’re sorely mistaken. How many people need to be doing it, for you to consider that it is a “thing”? Just because you don’t see something happening yourself, doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. So far, only Kevin James Bennett and myself have been openly talking about negative ad campaigns in the influencer community, however that doesn’t mean we’re the only two people to have ever seen it. As more people find the courage to speak on this issue, we will see more evidence of this unscrupulous and unethical practice.

In todays video I explain to you about negative marketing in social media, and present evidence gathered after speaking with Australian advertising authorities. At the current time, there is no legal obligation to disclose sponsored content that does not contain an endorsement of any sort. This means that brands can pay someone to post a negative review of a competitors product, and so long as the video does not contain an endorsement of a product, it does not need to be disclosed as sponsored material.

It is NOT ethical to accept a brand sponsorship and fail to disclose that what you are saying is a paid endorsement. It’s even WORSE to accept a sponsorship to purposefully shed negative light on another brand, in order to benefit the brand that is paying you. YES, this DOES happen.

I hope you understand what i’m trying to address in todays video – if you have any questions at all, please leave them in the comments below.

  1. Just remember that there is no solid evidence to back up the comment in the Reddit forum. With that being said, true or fabricated, the act of influencers offering these deals to brands (or brands offering these deals to influencers) is most certainly "a thing". (EDIT: the owner of the brand that was spoken of negatively has tweeted me saying that when she called out the influencer for the video in question, she was told that it was not in breech of the FTC guidelines).

  2. I just found your videos today. I first subscribed because I liked you and Archie. I'm now a committed fan because of these videos. You are brilliant and I applaud you for standing your ground and continuing to inform people. ❤❤❤

  3. Thank you for being honest with us about what is going on. I would rather hear that you are being sponsored, then to lie to me and tell me you are NOT being sponsored…and then wonder how as a YouTuber you are able to afford ALL the things you are buying.
I appreciate your honesty Alex. You are a true, honest business person.

  4. I don't have a problem with comparative advertising whatsoever, as long as I know it's an ad. When I watch TV and see a commercial, it's clearly an ad. When I watch a review on YT, it's not always clear, which is the issue. We need to know what's genuine and what's advertising.

  5. After seeing her screw up every marketing release of her products and collabs… ive decided that Jacklyn Hill-the Dill is just an uneducated moron. JH really has to be the DUMBEST woman in the USA…. and thats pretty sad. Thank you Pastel for your intelligence and research. I love your natural and realistic approach. Jacklyn Dill to me is as plastic as you can get

  6. I kind of just had an "ah-ha" moment. That is how the people from the fyre festival were able to pay models and influencers to post about the festival and didnt have to tell their followers and fans about the endorsement

  7. I don't see how influencers don't think negative adverts aren't a thing. Think about toilet paper or diaper ads on tv. "Diaper A is three times more absorbent then diaper B" or "TP A is two times thicker than TP B" are both forms of comparative, or negative, advertising.

  8. Jaclyn used to market sigma brushes as good as mac for the fraction of the price, then morphe sponsored her and started to say morphe brushes are as good as mac for the fraction of the price, so even if she is unaware of it she did a negative/comparison sponsored review…

  9. Gurl this video was linked to the tea spill video about you well not about you but you were mentioned all in a good light too I adore you all of.your content is pure gold your adorable funny and too friggin cute lol I have binge watched you for a couple days lol

  10. 10:05
i cant say i disagree with that. if all the negative point is true, and all the influencers do is sharing the negative truth about a brand, thats all good and fine. IF the negative things that are mentioned are all made up lies, then surely its defamation and should be illegal?
